Día de los Muertos — Honoring the Ancestors

Step into the rich history, symbolism, spirituality, and sacred traditions of Día de los Muertos — the Day of the Dead.

In this immersive workshop, Jacqueline Spaargaren, CCSH, RMT, OLM will explore the historical and cultural roots of Día de los Muertos and the beautiful traditions created to remember, celebrate, and honor those who have crossed before us.

You will learn how to create your own ancestral altar, or ofrenda, and understand the meaning and purpose behind the elements traditionally placed upon it. We will explore photographs, candles, flowers, food and drink offerings, personal mementos, sacred objects, and other ways an altar can become a meaningful place of remembrance and connection.

But an ancestral altar can be more than a place of remembrance. For those who approach ancestral work spiritually, it can also become a sacred space for developing an ongoing relationship with those who came before us.

In This Workshop You Will Learn:

  • The history and cultural significance of Día de los Muertos
  • The meaning and symbolism behind its traditional imagery and customs
  • How to create and arrange an ancestral altar / ofrenda
  • What offerings may be placed upon an altar and why
  • Ways to honor, remember, and celebrate your ancestors
  • Spiritual practices for connecting with ancestors who have passed on
  • Ways to become more receptive to messages, signs, dreams, synchronicities, and intuitive impressions
  • How to discern and interpret what those experiences may mean to you
  • How ritual, meditation, prayer, and altar work can be used to create a sacred meeting place between the world of the living and the world of the ancestors
  • How to develop a personal ancestral practice that can continue long after Día de los Muertos has passed

This class is both educational and experiential—a journey into history, remembrance, spirituality, and ancestral connection. Together, we will explore how Día de los Muertos reminds us that death does not have to erase relationship, memory, or love, and how sacred practice can symbolically bring the worlds of the living and the ancestors together.

A special collection of Día de los Muertos crystal healing jewelry, created by Jacqueline, will also be available for purchase during the workshop.

Come celebrate life, remembrance, ancestry, and the enduring bonds that connect us across generations.
